Sunfolio Privacy Policy
Effective date: 3 November 2026
Sunfolio is an Android app for reading documents (PDF, Word, text files and images) and working with PDF files on your phone. It is made by JC Studio ("we", "us"). This policy explains, in plain words, what the app does with data.
The short version
- Sunfolio reads your documents and runs its PDF tools on your phone only. It never uploads a document, its name or its content to us or to anyone else.
- There is no account, no sign-up and no server of our own.
- Your reading history, favorites, reading positions, recent searches and settings are stored only on your phone.
- When the app crashes, it sends a crash report to Google's Firebase Crashlytics, and it sends usage statistics to Google Analytics for Firebase. Neither contains file names, folder names, document content or anything you typed. See Crash reports and Usage statistics.
- We do not sell your data or share it with anyone.
- This version has no ads and no in-app purchases.
What Sunfolio does on your phone
Finding your documents. If you allow it, Sunfolio looks through your phone's storage for PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, text and image files so it can list them in the app. It reads file names, sizes, dates and folders, and keeps that list on your phone so the library opens quickly. If you choose not to allow access to all files, Sunfolio only sees the folders and files you pick yourself.
Opening documents. Sunfolio opens documents on your phone. Word files are converted on your phone into a reading view; that view never loads anything from the internet, even if a document links to pictures online. A link inside a document opens in your browser only after you confirm.
Files from other apps. When you open a file in Sunfolio from another app (for example an email or chat app), Sunfolio may keep a temporary copy on your phone while you read it and deletes it afterwards.
Renaming, deleting and sharing. These happen only when you ask, on your phone. Sharing hands the file to the app you choose.
PDF tools. When you use a PDF tool (turn pictures into a PDF, merge, split, compress, rotate, reorder or delete pages, add or remove a password), Sunfolio does the work on your phone and saves the result as a new file in your Download/Sunfolio folder. Your original file is not changed. A password you type for a tool is used once and not saved.
Scanning documents. The document scanner is provided by Google Play services (Google's ML Kit document scanner). Google Play services opens the camera and finds the page edges on your phone; Sunfolio itself has no camera permission and receives only the finished pages, which it saves as a PDF on your phone. The pictures are processed on your phone; they are not sent to Google or to us. The first time you scan, Google Play services may download the scanner from Google. Like other ML Kit features, the scanner may send Google basic technical information so it keeps working well: the phone model and Android version, Sunfolio's package name and version, a random per-installation identifier and performance figures such as how long a scan took. It does not send your pictures or documents. More: ML Kit data disclosure.
What is stored on your phone
All of this is kept in Sunfolio's private storage, which other apps cannot read.
| Data | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|
| The list of documents found on your phone: name, folder, size, date, type | To show the library quickly | Refreshed when files change; until you clear the app's storage or uninstall |
| Recently opened documents, favorites, where you stopped reading in each document and how you read it (page colour, scroll direction, text size) | Recent, Favorites, Continue reading | Until you remove them, clear the app's storage or uninstall |
| Files the PDF tools create | Your results (merged, split, compressed, scanned PDFs…) | In Download/Sunfolio, like any file you save: they stay when you uninstall Sunfolio, until you delete them |
| Your recent searches (up to 10) | To search again quickly | Until you clear them in Search, clear storage or uninstall |
| Folders you gave Sunfolio access to | To keep showing their documents | Until you remove the folder in Settings, clear storage or uninstall |
| Settings: theme, language, reduce motion, library order, reading defaults, keep the screen on, whether you finished the intro | To remember your choices | Until you clear storage or uninstall |
| Reading views of Word files | To reopen them quickly | Older ones are deleted automatically past 200 MB; cleared when you clear storage or uninstall |
Backups and new phones. Sunfolio turns off Android's cloud backup, so its data is not copied to your Google Drive. On some phones, a direct phone-to-phone transfer when setting up a new phone can still copy it; that transfer goes straight between your two phones and never reaches us.
What Sunfolio does not do
- It does not upload your documents, their names or their content anywhere.
- It does not ask you to create an account and does not know who you are.
- It does not access your location, contacts, microphone or messages, and has no camera permission (the scanner's camera runs in Google Play services, see above).
- It does not use your advertising ID.
- It does not sell, rent or trade any data, and does not use data for advertising.
Permissions
| Permission | Android versions | Why Sunfolio needs it |
|---|---|---|
| All files access | 11 and later | Optional. To find every document on your phone and list it in the library. Sunfolio uses it only to list, open, rename, delete and share documents when you ask. Without it, the app works with the folders and files you pick. |
| Storage (read and write) | 8 to 10 | Same purpose as above on older Android versions. |
| Internet, network state | All | Only to send the crash reports and usage statistics described below. Documents are never sent. |
You can change these permissions at any time in your phone's Settings > Apps > Sunfolio > Permissions.
Crash reports
When Sunfolio crashes, it sends a crash report to Firebase Crashlytics, a service run by Google LLC, so that we can find and fix the problem. A crash report contains:
- what went wrong in the app's code (the stack trace) and the state of the app at that moment;
- details about the phone, such as the model, Android version, free memory and storage, and the app version;
- a random installation ID created by Crashlytics, used to count how many installations a crash affects. It is not linked to your name, email or Google account.
Crashlytics also sends basic session information (when the app was opened and which version was running). As with any internet connection, Google's servers see your phone's IP address when a report is sent. Sunfolio does not add file names, folder names, document content or anything you typed to crash reports. Crash reports are not used for advertising. Google processes this data on our behalf and may process it in the United States and other countries. Crashlytics keeps crash reports for 90 days and then starts deleting them. More: Firebase's privacy information.
Usage statistics
Sunfolio uses Google Analytics for Firebase, a service run by Google LLC, to learn how the app is used, for example how many people finish the intro or how long PDF files take to open. It sends:
- the actions you take in the app, with the time, described only by fixed values and numbers, for example "a PDF of 1–10 MB was opened from the library in 300 ms" or "intro step 2 was skipped". File sizes, page counts and reading time are sent as ranges (for example "1–10 MB"); how long an action took is sent as a number of milliseconds or seconds;
- a random app-instance ID created by Google Analytics, not linked to your name, email or Google account;
- the phone model, Android version, app version and language;
- an approximate region (such as the country), which Google works out from your IP address.
Sunfolio never sends file names, folder names, document content, search words or anything else you typed, and does not collect your advertising ID or your phone's Android ID. Ad storage and ad personalization are switched off. Google Analytics keeps this event data for 2 months and then deletes it. Google processes this data on our behalf and may process it in the United States and other countries. More: How Google uses data from apps that use its services.
Google Play
You download Sunfolio from Google Play, which Google runs under its own privacy policy. Google Play gives us summary statistics such as installs, ratings, reviews and crash rates. If Sunfolio asks you to rate it, the rating window is shown by Google Play; we only learn the public rating and review you choose to post.
Sending feedback
"Send feedback" in Settings opens your email app with our address and a subject line that includes the app version, Android version and phone model. Nothing is sent until you send the email yourself, and we receive only what you write.
Sharing and selling
We do not sell your data and we do not share it with third parties. Crash reports and usage statistics go to Google only so that it can process them for us, as described above. We may disclose information if the law requires it, but we hold almost nothing that could identify you.
Deleting your data
- Remove a document from Recent, unstar a favorite or clear recent searches in the app.
- Delete everything: in your phone's Settings > Apps > Sunfolio > Storage, tap Clear storage.
- Uninstall the app: this deletes all of Sunfolio's data from your phone. Your own documents stay where they are.
- Crash reports are deleted automatically by Crashlytics, starting 90 days after they are sent. Because they carry no name or account, we usually cannot tell which reports came from you, but you can write to us at luan91.official@gmail.com and we will help where we can.
Children
Sunfolio is a general-audience tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the EU or UK GDPR, or US state privacy laws), you may have the right to ask what personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, and to object to how it is used. Since Sunfolio keeps your data on your phone, you can see, change and delete it yourself as described above. For anything else, contact us at luan91.official@gmail.com. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Security
Sunfolio's data is kept in the app's private storage, which Android protects from other apps. It is not encrypted separately, so protect your phone with a screen lock. Crash reports and usage statistics are sent over encrypted (HTTPS) connections.
Changes to this policy
If Sunfolio starts handling data differently, for example when a later version adds ads or purchases, we will update this policy before that version is released and change the effective date above. Significant changes will also be mentioned in the app's release notes on Google Play.
